Date Night

Terry and I got to go out for our anniversary last weekend! I have to say it is so much easier leaving Madeline now that she's a little older. She barely even noticed we were leaving and just gave us a casual wave and a "bye!" Nice to know we're loved! :)

Anyway, we went to dinner and then to a cute little park near Dove Creek. Then we went muddin'. I have to say even though part of me worried about paying the deductible when Terry wrecked the truck, it really was so fun! It made me feel so young!

After our romantic muddin', we ended the night at Stango's. If you are local and you've never been - GO! They have the BEST ice cream, malt beverages, coffee drinks, etc. It's like a 50's diner type place and it is so cute! I had a root beer float and Terry had an orange creamsicle - they were so good!!!

The Goal for Today...

Was to maintain my sanity. I can say it's 10:30pm and I think I'm gonna make it.

Terry had PRK surgery this morning - kinda like Lasik but a longer recovery time. He's doing ok although he's a little drugged up tonight! But no more glasses for this guy!!!

After we got Terry home and settled, my sweet girl started throwing up. I noticed she wasn't quite herself this morning and was warm, but by this afternoon she was so hot she was shivering and she could not stop vomiting. So off we went to urgent care.

By the time we got there ( they won't see you without an appointment, and the best I could do was 6:40) she was acting a little better although she threw up in the waiting room. The PA we saw was super nice and this was one of the least painful visits we've ever had. He ruled out appendicitis, gave her some Zofran, tylenol and motrin, and sent us home.

I feel like this needs some sort of ominous caption...

Future Dr. Richardson????? She sure is cute!

Not gonna lie - I almost lost it today. The guy on the appointment line argued with me about having dependents because he couldn't find Madeline in the system. I wanted to offer him a gory birth story or cuss him out, but I frantically and politely explained our situation to him. At the time Madeline was shaking and couldn't stop vomiting and I was in no mood for nonsense. His supervisor found her in the system and was looking for an appointment when the phone cut off. Two phone calls later I finally had an appointment for her. I may have shed 6 or 7 tears and wished my mom was here to help me but I tried to just do what I had to do and take care of both Terry and Madeline.

This was my Jesus Calling devotion last night - the good Lord must've known how much I'd need it today!

Rosie

I saw her for the first time in the parking lot today. I noticed the empty car seat in her car. I noticed her slender frame, cute A-line skirt, and navy blue polka dotted hat. I couldn't help but notice that she was about my age. I couldn't miss her sweet smile and polite wave. Her kind eyes shining and her bald head peeking out from her cute hat.

We met up again later today in the kitchen. Rosie is a mom of a 4 year old girl. Madeline had skinned her knee and I was cleaning it up. Rosie told Madeline how she knew all about boo boos.

She will be here until September all by herself receiving chemotherapy.  Rosie has been on my mind and heart all day. I know two things for sure today - I am blessed far more than I deserve and that a five minute encounter with a woman my age is forever etched in my mind. Praying for her and her family tonight.

Remember When...

As soon as I turned on Pandora this was the song that came on...

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

I was immediately brought back to this day 10 years ago...

You promised to love me forever and I gave you my whole heart. Happy 10th Anniversary to my very best friend and my love of a lifetime. Thank you for making my dreams come true. I love you.

Mundane Monday

Since Madeline has been sick we have been stuck hanging around the house. Terry decided to entertain himself yesterday by dressing her up in the dogs clothes. Before you feel sorry for her you should know that she loved it, and got mad at me when she had to change.

In other mundane news, I finally got up the nerve to put Zoe on Craig's list. I must have gotten at least 50 phone calls and texts over two days. I guess people around here are desperate for a free pup!? Anyway, I think we found a good home for her, and so far she is doing well with the family who took her. I felt a little sad about it, but pretty soon immense relief set in and I was over it. I hope she has a good life but I am thankful that it will be in another home!

Secret Sunday

While we were in San Antonio we took Madeline to the children's museum. HEB has this awesome area where kids can grocery shop and visit a "farm" to milk the cow. Well, I tried to show Madeline how to milk this cow but nothing would come out. Terry said I was doing it wrong and I had to pull harder. So I took his advice and put forth my best effort to milk the cow. I pulled her udder completely off in my earnest effort! I thought I was going to die of laughter or embarrassment or both. Don't worry too much though, I was able to repair the udder...I should've been a surgeon!
Madeline has asked me at least once a day since then, "Mommy, you hurt that cow?". Hopefully I didn't damage her or the cow permanently!

PS - It's been a rough weekend here. Lots of poo and little sleep. My poor baby has been so sick and has a terrible diaper rash. Say a little prayer for us! :(

Terrible...

I took about the worst possible pictures last week when we celebrated the 4th of July! We went to the Pops Concert downtown Wednesday night and watched the fireworks. Madeline was in heaven. She kept saying "they're very beautiful, aren't they, Momma?" She melted my heart. There were a ton of people there and the fireworks were pretty lame but she thought they were the greatest thing ever!

I didn't bring my camera so I just used my phone - not my best work! :)

This picture is particularly bad but this was her face most of the night - completely mesmerized!

Thursday we hung out here. We were going to go the Freedom Fest but the thought of chasing Madeline in a crowd of a million people for 3 1/2 hours just to watch fireworks became less and less appealing as the day went on. We decided to just watch the fireworks and skip the rest of the "fest". But then a couple of Terry's friends from work came over and we ended up grilling a feast and may or may not have had a little fireworks of our own. It was so relaxed and so fun. And guess what? I didn't take one picture! I love 4th of July and I love fireworks!!! I am so thankful for our freedom and grateful to our men and women who continue to protect it. I am particularly blessed to be married to a studly man in uniform!

Tick Tock

As of yesterday my baby is officially in a big girl bed. Bedtime has been a little crazy here for the past couple of months, and something had to give. She would sleep in the guest room by herself but most nights she has been in our bed. It has gotten WAY old! So last night we made the switch. Her crib converts all the way to a full size bed so we just got the mattress and box springs. I think Terry is going to build her a bed at some point but I still don't know what I want and nothing in the furniture store here really appeals to me, especially for what they charge. She did ok last night and woke up once during the night. I think she just has to get used to being in her room again - she doesn't really have a choice at this point! :)

Anyway, now I have to find bedding. I've been looking but I will make it into a much bigger decision than it needs to be and it will probably take me forever. I just don't want it to look too busy in her room, but I need something that can take some wear and tear too because of her age. I found a set at pottery barn that I love but may need a second mortgage to get it all. The good thing about Pottery Barn is they do put stuff on sale so I may just have to wait it out. Such major decisions going on around here!

In other exciting news, Terry got a free ( sort of ) pair of shoes in the mail yesterday. Last summer he got new tennis shoes and recently the bottom separated from them. They're Asics and although we got them on major clearance, they were originally like $180. So I called Asics and they sent us a new pair!!! I was so excited - I love good customer service and feeling like our money is well spent with a company. They're darker red in real life though and they go well with all his FSU stuff! I think I am WAY more excited about them than he is!

Manic Monday

Well, I officially start back school today. Such a sad day, but it's only one class and most of it is online. Still, my days of a carefree summer are gone. Not that it's been the most carefree summer but you know. We spent the weekend in San Antonio. Terry surprised me and whisked us away for the weekend. We needed it and enjoyed it SO much! I have tons of pictures to post at some point.

In the meantime, I am so proud to say that I am officially working for Project Humanity now. They approached me about a position while I was in Kenya but I wanted to think about it, pray about it, and talk to Terry about it before I accepted it. I will be doing most things domestically and am so excited about what I will be doing. I will have lots more to come on that in the future.

Here is the link to an interview I did for them and my video from Rusinga.

I wish sometimes that I could bottle the feelings I had in Kenya and give them away so others could know just what it was like.

Here's a picture of my sweet girl on the way to San Antonio. It's probably the most sleep she got all weekend! :) We had so much fun though!!!

Wayward Wednesday

Warning: This post is completely random... I mean, most of mine are but still.

Madeline has the frustrating habit of not listening ( unlike me when I was 2...I was very obedient) and managed to get herself stuck here. I waited a little while before I rescued her and enjoyed the view! :)
My phone takes really great pictures sometimes and other times they look like this - super grainy and terrible. Oh well!

We found this guy in the pool yesterday and rescued him. I think its a dragonfly but I have never seen one up close. He was pretty cute though and thanked us for our help! Madeline was upset when he flew away. hah

Madeline is on the worst schedule of all time. She stays up late, wakes up late, and naps randomly wherever she falls asleep. I think she is slowly giving up her nap, which I am ok with if I can get her to sleep earlier at night. She also refuses to sleep in her bed but will sleep in the guest bed all by herself just fine. I think it's really time for a big girl bed.

Finally, this is something I am really proud of. Not the fact that I ended a sentence with a preposition but the fact that I fell in love with these shoes in about March or so. Well, they were over $60 which in my opinion is a little ridiculous. I watched and watched and finally got them on sale for $29 and at Nordstrom you never pay shipping! Win!!!!

Finally, I am starting what is sure to be a terrible habit. I cleaned out our closet yesterday and found a box with all my scrapbook stuff in it. I should be ashamed at how much stuff I have and the fact that I haven't touched any of it since Madeline was born. Two of my closest friends both gave me scrapbooks with pages they made and I just haven't done anything with them. But I decided its time. Surely, I can't mess it up that bad, and I really want Madeline to have a scrapbook for each year of her life. We'll see how this goes...

Happy Wednesday!!!

Summer Lately...

I had a goal this summer to really purge our house and get rid of junk. I am a little over halfway finished. I am so ashamed to say this is my party/craft/school closet before...

I am not sure how it even got like that but it did. The good news is I found one of my long lost sets of keys! Anyway, the after picture is below! Sometimes I walk by, open the closet, and pat myself on the back! Just kidding but it does make me super happy to get something out of it now. I LOVE organization but am just not every good at maintenance, especially when we're busy. I think though by getting rid of so much stuff, it will be easier to maintain everything. We'll see!

We spend a little time in our infinity pool almost every day! And if you're thinking man that looks a little different than the other infinity pools I've seen on here. It's because its our THIRD one this summer. The first one lasted a day I think, the second about 3 weeks, and this one is going on a full week now. I just can't see making it through summer without one though!

Last week I took Madeline to see Monsters University and she loved it. She may have eaten a piece of popcorn off the floor while we were there. Guess I should've sprung for the combo. We had a good time though and I love that she's old enough to do this now!

Roots...

Madeline found her country roots while we were in Florida. Terry's uncle has a lot of land and woods and we spent a lot of time there. He had the best toys for Madeline to play with like a huge pile of dirt, bugs, frogs, a 4 wheeler, and a push broom. She would get completely brown from head to toe in dirt and she loved every second of it!

She played with this milipede for about 30 minutes one night when we were there. The quality of the picture if terrible. See the guy sitting on the cooler - that's Larry, Terry's 2nd cousin. He would be the star of the reality show with Uncle Stan. I can honestly say I have never met anyone like him. I'm surprised A&E or the history channel hasn't discovered him yet!

A couple of days before we left we had a fish fry with the whole family at Terry's grandpa's house. He lives here on Hurricane Lake working as a campsite manager - he's almost 80 mind you. It is beautiful here but you can't swim because there are alligators everywhere! Terry's aunt made ice cream and Madeline was in heaven!

This one's just random but I love her little legs in this picture! My baby is growing up too fast!

Finally, I have to introduce Roger, my all time favorite cat. He's not nearly as slim as he looks in this picture (he and Madeline are probably about the same weight) and is the coolest cat of all time. He lost his eye in a cat fight. I am not a cat person but would make an exception for this guy. Too bad Terry's allergic.
